Welcome
The early American quilts, so treasured by families and passed on to younger generations, were patched together with cloth from many sources.

My site name, patchworkheritage, is built on the same principle, pulling together my heritage from many sources. My ancestors came from Belgium, Sweden, England, Ireland, France and Canada and settled in New England and Middle America. My primary surnames are the Minnaerts from Belgium, Piersons from Sweden, Ballards from New England and England, Warrens from Ireland and the Kings from England and Ireland. With the death of my birth father, Muggs Warren, when I was 4 months old, I was adopted by Pete King when he married my mother Dixie two years later. That gives me the benefit of having three parents and more areas to research.

You can start viewing my research by choosing the tabs on the left or clicking on the Family Histories or Feature Articles. The journey never ends!

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to those "cousins" and friends who have contributed so much to help make this website a success:

Ray Thomas - Canadian Charette/Shorette family researcher, who along with Denis Charet found our Native American links in Canada.

Yvonne Hallqvist - My Swedish researcher on the Pierson family and my look-alike sister, along with Thomas Hallqvist, husband and renaissance man.

Marnix Rijk - My Belgian researcher and great tour guide, who brought the Minnaert history together.

Tom Munday - The first person to help on my Ballard research, who shared information and offered guidance.

Fran Deschamps LaChance - She shared her research and helped me find the missing link between the Shorrett line and her vast French-Canadian family.

2 Sept 2013 -We held our first annual Minnaert Reunions in Port Byron and Geneseo, Illinois on July 28, 2013. We brought together families of Peter and Sophia Minnaert from Atkinson and Iowa and Bruno and Coleta Minnaert from the Geneseo area. Great success!

2 Sept 2013 -More new cousins. I have emailed with a cousin from our Hasson side. We're both looking for Alexander Hasson, from Londonderry, Ireland.

2 Sept 2013 -My tree keeps growing. Someone once commented that I only had dead people on my website (not true)and earlier this year I met a new Ballard cousin who is helping me fill in 'living cousins' from the Ballards out of Prophetstown.

12 Sep 2012 -I FOUND THEM! I've searched for ten years to find when, where and how the Pearsons got to America. With the help of Hal Pearson and John Pearson, newly found cousins, I found the Pearson family arrived at Castle Garden, New York on May 18, 1889 on the ship BOTHNIA.
